shiatsu massage (japanese acupressure)
Shiatsu, or “finger pressure” is an ancient Japanese medical massage practice with its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Shiatsu works on the body’s energy channels and acupuncture points to remove blockages (muscle tension) and restore the free flow of chi (energy and blood) through the body. A combination of circulatory and pressure techniques as well as manual stretches are used to simultaneously awaken and calm your nervous system, release bound muscles, and stimulate organ function.
deep tissue massage
Builds on Swedish massage applying more pressure to break up adhesions, scar tissue, and “knots” to areas in the body that collect stress and strain. The depth of the pressure provided depends on the client’s preferences and comfort.
This is the lightest pressure massage, which uses smooth strokes applied to arms, legs, back and neck with oil or lotion to relieve body tension, promote circulation, and enhance relaxation.
Smooth stones are warmed and applied to different areas of the body to bring circulation to stiff areas and to relax tissues. The temperature of the stone is always checked with the client’s hands before applying to the skin, and stones are never left in place, they move over the body and are removed as they cool.
